Three stars for their amazing "eat at the bar" Happy Hour. A buck a taco (minimum three). Three or four dollar quesadillas and bar bites. Three or four dollar beers. Granted, you have to be seated on a bar stool, but its worth the effort. One peeve though, I ordered 4 tacos and they came with no salsa. I asked the server for salsa, she said the tacos don't include salsa. She said I should share my wife's salsa. I asked for my own, and I swear she rolled her eyes before she brought me my ny very own plastic container of salsa, Yes, that's a true story.

Very fun atmosphere! Our waiter was very nice, I wish I remembered his name, he was a little pushy, but very fun and was making us have a good time. He talked my sister into getting the yard margarita, she said it tasted mostly like sour mix. The food was so good! I had the nachos and the Caesar salad. The nachos were massive, so good, but so much of them. After they came to the table we wished we had just ordered two of those for the table and called it a day, that's how many there were! I would stop in again and grab a bite to eat at the bar next time I go there. There was a girl going around holding tequila shots, she goes around the whole restaurant over and over again, so if you missed her the first time you can catch her in 5 minutes when she comes back around! The bathrooms were kind of gross, there was toilet paper everywhere and people wrote all over the walls. I also felt like the floors needed to be mopped.

I walked in and planned to order a salad, but the place just kinda seemed gross. I figured I would be much safer ordering something fried. (Less chance of food poisoning!) We really were in a hurry and I didn't have enough stamina left to deal with carrying my toddler through the crowds to another restaurant in the heat. The place seriously needs a good cleaning and paint job. The waiter was a nice guy. The food was barely marginal. How can you mess up fried food? Please spend some money on your restaurant and clean it the heck up! As my five year old nephew would say "sgusting." Don't even go in the bathrooms! Only redeeming qualities were a nice enough waiter and good music. Keep walking. Don't stop at this one!

Awful. Just awful. We asked for the cheese dip to go along with the chips and salsa and they brought us cheez wiz. Ordered chicken fingers and fries for the kiddos and they were terrible. I ordered a chicken chimichanga and I got a big, fat soft taco filled with rabbit turd-sized white meat that I will assume was chicken. To top it all off, being at Broadway at the beach, we paid top dollar for that crap. Positive note? Kiddos got balloon animal hats.

This meal was ok. It reminded me of eating at a Chili's or other chain restaurant. I got a Bahama Mama as a drink and there was barely any alcohol in it- same for my friend's margarita. The service was slow but otherwise ok. I got the Chicken Fajita salad which was kind of bland. The chicken wasn't really seasoned at all. My friend got the actual chicken fajitas and enjoyed them more. I'd heard good things about this restaurant and left underwhelmed.

If you are looking for an edible meal this is not the place to look, food is extremely overpriced and disgusting. Do not eat here

Everything started off well enough until my brother-in-law attempted to announce our sister-in-law's recent engagement. He yelled "excuse me everyone..." but was immediately interrupted by Kaitlyn, one of the wait staff, who ignorantly assumed that we were yelling at one of her co-workers. Before gathering any information, she then scolded us like children for something we did not do, completely killing the vibe. Had she just let her paying customer finish before interrupting and berating him, she would have known we simply wanted to celebrate and have a good time at their establishment. Instead, she was a rude, assuming, condescending buzz-kill who just lost Carlos and Charlie's resultant an entire family of customers. The one star is because the food is cool. The other missing four are due to our horrible customer service experience.

By far the worst dining experience I have ever had in my life. The guacamole that was supposed to made table side came out in a gooey green paste hardly discernible as the fresh guacamole advertised in the menu I felt terrible sorry for my parents that had ordered it and the stale chips that came with it proved telling of the meal to come. The waitress who hardly spoke English quickly brought our drinks and disappeared. Not to be seen until after our food arrived and got cold not that it took long because it was barely warm upon arrival. The food runner spilled scalding beans on my leg as he auctioned the food at the table the only hot food delivered was served on my leg barely missing my toddler. The carne Asada tacos my wife ordered came in corn tortillas instead of flour ones she had ordered. They were missing the sour cream and pico that were promised along with it. The fajitas I ordered were served with chicken that appeared to be microwaved. The empty seats in the restaurant in this tourist trap should have been enough to dissuade us from this ungodly dirty place (no time to waste on the condition of the bathroom). After I got the bill they even charged for the side of guacamole that I never received. Over all I would be ashamed to work in this establishment ...horrible. I'm upset at this app because you have to give the reviewing restaurant one star of which this one is completely undeserving.

If you're looking for gourmet food - keep on going. However, if you're in Myrtle Beach and looking for a fun dinner, then you're in the right place - especially with a group. We came here with most of my daughter's softball team, in all about 35 of us, and from the moment we stepped in the door Alex, our waiter, greeted us with such enthusiasm that is just set the pace. Alex was as much a party MC as he was a waiter. He got us all up to dance, got us doing a conga line out the door, and kept us entertained the whole night. All that while getting all of our meals ordered efficiently and delivered almost flawlessly.

  • Allison H.

Worst food imaginable. Cheese dip is lukewarm Velveta, guacamole is green mayo with no flavor. Enchiladas with red sauce taste like ketchup. I couldn't even eat them. Food is awful and expensive. Staff was very attentive to our large group but food is disgusting.

    (1)
  • Mary E.

We were tricked into coming here by the little old lady at the visitor center who kept telling us how good the food was. Andddddd it was awful. Everything tasted like it came from a can or a freezer bag. Barely any flavor to anything! The only good thing about the place was the staff! They were fun and charming!! If you want good Mexican food, do not come here....

    (2)
  • Jennifer G.

Wow. So underwhelmed... This was the worst food I believe I've ever had... We had to pay for chips/salsa... A Mexican restaurant without queso.. I get my daughter the spaghetti for her thinking its a safe choice... It tasted like it was Chef Boyardee... I had the supposed famoso fajitas for $19... But if you want lettuce and cheese you have to pay $2 more... My husband got the "carne asada" tacos and it looked like 1987 street meat from a bad carnie at the fair... Great service though... That's why I gave 1-star - big fat yuck!

    (1)
  • Destiny S.

If I could give it no star I would. We were rushed to our table. I was thinking great! But then we waited and waited and waited. We watched five servers laughing and talking. Several walked right by us. No water, no hello, no we will be right with you. The place was empty. No wonder!!! We waited 20 minutes and then left. We will never return.

    (1)
  • Mandy S.

This place is overpriced & the food is medicore. When we came there it wasn't very busy but we felt rushed the whole time. The strap on the highchair was broken and when we asked for another one the server rolled his eyes. He got us another one and it was broken as well! The servers name was Manny R. He was just extremely ignorant & rude. We ordered a drink and we ordered a small and he brought us a medium. The food wasn't even warm. Again we felt rushed. They couldn't remove our plates fast enough. When we left we said thank you which we shouldn't of and he looked us right in the eyes and turned the other way and didnt even acknowledge us. Never ever again will we go here!!!!

  • Corinne S.

Worst dining experience ever. The food was bland and uneatable and chips and salsa were not included. The salsa was no good and guac tasted like the kind you buy from a grocery store. All the servers were dancing around and laughing with each other while i waited 20 minutes for my salsa to come to the table. Almost wanted to just get up and walk out, do not waste your time.

    (1)
  • Jeff H.

The worst restaurant, if y'all can call it that. They charge for chips n salsa, no Mexican place does that and it was $6.50 and not good. Food was way overpriced and came out cold and flavorless. Even the kids meals were horrible. Do not waste your time or money here. Worst place in MB!

    (1)
  • Chrisanne C.

The service sucked. It took 10 minutes to be asked for a drinks and another 15 to actually get them. The food was average. We had to return a drink and ask for chips and dip too. Almost walked out but the drinks finally came.

  • K C.

Food was well cooked and staff is very friendly and good at taking care of you. We went for dinner and they offered us tequila shots, although we didn't take any. Most Mexican restaurants that I have been to offer the chips and salsa as complimentary, but this one charged $2 without telling us. Otherwise, the food was well priced. You can get a platter for 2 with a bunch of quesadillas, fajitas, and other stuff for just $20. Nice place at Broadway if you want to get dinner with some character.

    (5)
  • Bruce H.

Only because I have to give it a star. Probably the worst Mexican I have ever had. Heard it was a must. Wish I would have looked here first. All the food was bland no seasoning at all. The guacamole seemed to be from a jar. Service was good and the price was fair. But food sucked!

  • Lindsay B.

This place was awful. We were hungry and there was no wait so we went in but we were sorry as soon as we sat down. When I unrolled my napkin/silverware there were ants that came out of it and we're all over the table. I got a burger only because I was too afraid to try anything else, which was ok. Then one of the servers came over to squirt fake mustard in my face which is some kind of lame bit. I was going to tell the server about the ants but after she took our order she never came back.

  • Jerome K.

Fun place with casual food and tasty drinks. Mexican fare with a lot of choices and better than your typical spoon of beans and rice at most American Mex restaurants. Lots of stuff hanging from the ceiling, like the Red Barons tri-plane. Get something to drink from the BARMACY.

  • Domenic M.

If this Carlos' and Charlie's location was in Iraq, we would be invading, because they're cooking up WMDs in the kitchen. Don't be fooled into thinking that all of the awful reviews are outdated. They deserved every one-star review. The service is so slow, you may never eat ... which I wish is what had happened to us. Had we not eaten, I wouldn't have to be writing this review to distract myself while my buddy drives to the hotel, so I can unleash a huge poop. It was beyond awful, and $125 with tip. The food is no better than your average skating rink. The $8.50 cheese and chips was cheese whiz with a dozen broken chips. When we asked for more chips, we were charged another dollar.

  • Jermiah M.

This was absolutely the most horrible food I have ever had in my life. I got the chicken and cheese burrito and the chicken was so dry I nearly chocked. The guacamole looked like runny baby shit and the food service....omg let me tell you about the food service. Not only did the waiter have a terrible attitude but the guy was LAZY. Keep in mind I had dry ass chicken and he acted as if it was a sin to refil my glass of water (which tasted like it came out the toilet). Get this...my friend asked for a to go cup for her coke and your not going to believe this but the guy brought her back a to go cup that he had picked up off a dirty table and rinsed out. Told the manager and of course he acted like he spoke no English well guess what asshole... I speak Spanish!!! Ugh just ugh save yourselves and your bank accounts and stay the hell away from this place. It dosent even deserve a 1 star, yuck.

My wife and I joined her daughter and her boyfriend who were already seated. We had a coupon from the B@ the Beach map, that can be found almost anywhere. So our chips and Salsa were....FREE! So whomever was the previous reviewer who complained about the cost of the chips....look around...find a coupon! The drinks were fine IMO. But then I'm not a fan of Corona or Margaritas. I had a large Blue Moon and my wife had a Coke. The food was...ok. My wife had a Caesar salad, the garlic bread that came with it had good flavor but was soggy! She liked the salad. I had "Charlies" Taco's: offered with corn or white flour tortillas. They come with chicken and carne asada steak, both meats could have had more seasoning for my taste but it was edible. My step-daughter had some veggies left over from her Fajitas so I added that to my tacos and got the flavor they were missing. They also came with beans, but I changed it to rice to add something to my taco's. The price was not bad. $50 for the two of us. And that included the tip. Angelica was a very attentive server and did a great job. I would be interested in trying other things on their menu, just not on this trip!

Well we must be one of the lucky ones because we had an alright experience. We know this is a franchise partnered with Señor Frogs and expected typical franchise type of bar food but with a "Mexican" flare. We sat outside at first but was a bit chilly and we asked to be seated inside with no problem. Our host and our server (V***) were nice and attentive. We were there on a Friday night at 7:00 in April (maybe off season?) Had the quesadillas Charlie and they were good. Had $2 PBR drafts too. Everyone else's meals were good too. Did not get any chips and salsa but she did ask in a way that we knew they weren't free. Bill for 4 people and tip was around $60.

  • Dennis S.

Overpriced tourist fare, server was very friendly but no amount of good cheer would overcome this food. The prices are silly high for the quality of food, and it's quite an insult to have a free appetizer be chips and salsa.

  • Walter J.

Let's just say that any restaurant that allows a customer to bring in his dog then allow the dog to walk on or lick the bar table is no place to eat at.

    (1)
  • Robert M.

All the other reviews are a fair representation of this establishment. We were walking on Broadway at the beach and had to eat so we ate here. By the time we were seated it took our server 10 minutes to great us. No one told her she had been seated. Other than that the service was adequate. The food was poor and over priced. The guac was bland and what Mexican restaurant doesn't give chips and salsa. Well this one. Wouldn't eat here again.

    (1)
  • Brian M.

Wow, I'm glad others have the same sentiments as I did. I bet you Charlie and not Carlos makes the food here. The food here is edible, but barely. I was thinking that it tasted like the Mexican frozen food entries you can buy at your local grocery store, and saw that another yelp reviewer said the same thing! I had the "house" tacos with chicken, steak, and chorizo. It really did taste frozen, not fresh at all. As many others have stated, they don't give you free chips and salsa, which was dissapointing, but I also didn't expect them to be free considering this is a restauraunt in a major tourist attraction. I give it two stars because the staff really does try here. They try to liven things up by passing out sombreros and trying to keep up a party atmosphere. At one point our waiter put a little baby sombrero on my infant daughter's head which made her smile. Had that not happened I may have given this place one star. Also, my infant daughter really chowed down on her Mexican rice. I thought the rice sucked, but to my infant daughter the rice was awesome. So if my daughter could write a yelp review, which she will do when she's older, she may have given this place more stars. Some say my judgment in my thirties is better than a one year olds, but my wife may differ on that opinion.

  • Ben O.

Good for a bar choice. Not so much for food. Service was friendly and attentive. Better Mexican fair could be found in most strip malls. There are plenty of drink options including servers carrying trays if tequila shots.

  • Margaret K.

I should have checked Yelp before we decided to eat here. As you walk in you are hit with that nasty smell of old cigarettes and beer. That should have been the first hint. The menu had food stuck on it, yikes! The Margarita was terrible and to top it off I had Charlies tacos, they brought them out on steamed corn tortillas. Have you ever had steamed corn tortillas? Me either. Don't waste your money, we did.

  • Herwig M.

Well, we did not expect a lot, but after a visit to the aquarium my two year old son was to tired and hungry to walk or drive somewhere else. First, we requested a highchair for our baby girl, and the highchair included a full meal of the last visitors, noodles, fries and more stuff. The waitress, did not bother to clean it, so we replaced it. But it wasn't that easy to find a clean high chair. Also our booth was a bit dirty, and the plastic table-cloth was disgusting. We ordered for our son hamburger from the kids menu. The appearance was below every expectations, poor little guy who did not care and ate some bites. Fries were ok. My wife and I ordered a salad, which was heavily overpriced-which we knew before- but decent. Nothing special, not bad either. Also, the beer selection was quite poor, I'm not even sure if the had Corona- what the heck of a Mexican restaurant.

    (1)
  • Jennifer C.

Nice place for an appetizer and quick drink. We got the nachos, which were a little pitiful...but not terrible. They were still good. I got a mojito and it was horrible. Wayyyy too much sugar. Stick to the food here ... Other dishes that came out looked really good as well.

    (3)
  • Ann Marie L.

If you want bland, lukewarm food, including chips tasting of dirty fry oil, this is the place for you. If not, go anywhere else on Broadway at the Beach. The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is the portions are large and the yard-long cocktails look good. I wasn't drinking - maybe that would have helped.

  • Becky C.

Didn't give all our change back that was due. Kept the change. Rip off! Food sucks.

I went there this past summer and the customer service was great! Their food was awesome and their drinks were even better ! The people still remembered us every time we went despite how many costumers they had. Very friendly atmosphere and def a place I would visit/ recommend .

  • Kameko W.

Don't bother! This is NOT Mexican food, or good food, by any means. The 'Charlie's Tacos' were bland and dry, the tortilla were soggy and falling apart. And the charro beans were nothing to write home about either. But it was hilarious when my brother and sister-in-law asked for ketchup...

  • roger s.

Go back to Mexico, because your chef sucks. Can't even cook mahi mahi without drying it out. Breads shrimp with pancake dough. Greasy greasy greasy. Took off breading and then wrung out the grease soaked two large napkins. By far the worst restaurant we have eaten at in myrtle beach. Would never go back. Hire a decent chef. Or close your doors. $19 for dried out fish. If it is was fresh it was ruined by the chef. Might as well serve frozen. Will never go back.

  • Marvin L.

I drank three Cadillac Margaritas. I paid $17 for each because I ordered Don Julio and Grand Marnier. My understanding of a Cadillac margarita is that it has tequila, grand marnier and triple sec. After drinking three fish bowl which are 18 ounces each I am not even buzzed. I just spent $60 on orange juice.

  • Kim D.

Went here looking for mexican food what we got was awful. The food had no flavor! The coupon that provided us the free chips and salsa was useless. The salsa was so bad we sent it back. The server brought us queso instead and that was even worse. It tasted like canned cheese sauce. The only food that was edible was the kids chicken fingers. Let me not forget to mention something was dripping from the ceiling on 3 of the 5 of us seated at the table. So the atmosphere is good but the food is awful and way overpriced. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Try Senor Frogs instead!

Best service!!! Great food! I don't know why people are saying it's not good, I ordered the plate that is for 2, it comes with fajitas, rice, quesadilla, beans, and tacos. It was delicious!

The food tasted ok..but it came out lukewarm. The server was wonderful, and the food came out really fast, of course we were the only table there at the time.. would never return, or recommend

Food was awful. Even chips and dip had zero flavor. Small bugs crawling across tablecloth, and shot girl asked us to buy shots while we were feeding 8 mo twins. Literally the worst Mex food I have ever had...we left it on the plates.

Just back from this DIVE. My family and I were very disappointed. The service was terrible the prices outrageous and the lack of attention from our waitress was unforgivable, the bus boy brought us our food and we saw here only a couple of times. NO CHIPS! are you kidding me. This lack of food group made worse the wait for our food. The food prices were way too high for this DIVE. One of the waiters tried to make it a party atmosphere by dancing around and that made things even worse. This was not a party unless it was a closing party. i saw only 1 good review so the owner must have done it. Oh yeah this is not a REAL mexican restaurant. Mozzarella cheese is used on all of it's dishes, I guess too cheap. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME and ESPECIALLY YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE

My experience with this place was horrible the waiter we had took our order and 15 min later we still had no drinks or food... We finally just walked out i will never recomend this place or visit again.... Horrible service

We really enjoyed this restaurant. The decor was amusing, although the signs had misspelled words and poor grammar, lol. The host sat us right away and bantered quite a bit. The waitress was so friendly and helpful, and talked with us a lot. Our food came fast and was very pretty to look at, and so delicious! The chimichanga was amazing, loved that it had chorizo in it. The fries came in a little mini french fry fryer basket. We had no problems and would go back again! Very clean as well, although the bathroom stalls had toilet paper shoved in the broken lock holes!

I created a yelp account just to warn others to stay away from Carlos and charlies. This was by far the worst Mexican dining experience I have ever had, almost the worst dining experience overall. What does every Mexican restaurant have right off the bat? Chips and salsa! Not this one, they charge you 8.50 for a handful of chips and an Oh so high class serving of cheese wiz in a cup. After you finish your chips in a few minutes be prepared to pay extra for more chips to finish off the rest of that amazing can cheese dip. Don't even think about having a Corona, beer is limited. As for a Margarita, they have a nice selection of what seems to be failed attempts at recreating the Margarita (just ask for a traditional Margarita with lime as they do not offer it on the menu). After all of this just within the first 30 minutes, my wife talked me into staying in the hopes of good food. Considering the burrito was nearly $17 with just chicken and cheese I assumed I was in for the best burrito I've had in a while... NOPE.. yet again Carlos and charlies drops the ball. The chicken was very dry, and after a few bites I was ready to leave. To sum it up, the food is over priced, the quality is non existent, and the authenticity has been lost. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy.

Terrible. I created a yelp account just to warn people. Over priced, everything comes out too fast to be fresh and tastes as you would expect canned ingredients to taste. Terrible!

I've been on Yelp for a while and read reviews but have never written one. My recent experience at Carlos and Charlie's was so awful that I'm about to change that. Worst server I have ever experienced and I was the GM of a restaurant so I have seen poor service first hand. He brought the wrong size margarita and when I pointed it out to him, he shrugged and started to walk away. My friend halted him and ask that he correct the order and again he shrugged and said, "I'll have to get a manager," so I said nevermind. Glad I did. All of three ice CUBES(?) and their house tequila was swill. Didn't make it past one sip. This was the worst food, not just marginal, not just bland, but inedible. I took one bite of my order, Chicken Flauta, and thought I must be mistaken. So like an idiot I took another bite. I didn't take a third. Since my friend chose the place I didn't want to complain until I noticed she wasn't touching hers either. So I asked if hers was okay and her response, "Worst food I've ever put in my mouth." When a different person went to remove our plates he asked if we wanted boxes to which we replied absolutely not, the food was awful. His response? "Oh, sorry," and off he went with our full plates. Here comes the server with the check after we made it clear it would be separate checks. HE HUFFED like it was our fault he wasn't paying attention and snatched the check up off the table returned with two small bowls each containing a check and dropped them on the table. I made it clear to him that he would not be receiving ANY tip and wrote it out clearly on the receipt why he didn't receive one. I understand marginal service, I understand forgetting orders, getting the wrong order, being swamped by the kitchen, but I do not understand outright discourtesy. As we were leaving I announced to the waiting customers that it was the worst food and worst service I had ever experienced not to waste their time. Never again. HA! Just read down below that someone went there because there was a three hour wait at Margaritaville. That's why we went there!!

    (1)
  • Mike K.

Was at Broadway at the beach with my family and trying to find a place to eat. Most of the places had a long wait... Exception was Carlos N Charlies (that should of been a red light warning). Don't know where to start. The Fajita's we purchased was not quite as good as the one's you get from the frozen food section at your local grocery store. The rest of the meal was similar. Chips and Salsa, which is normally free at a Mexican restaurant is not. The group I was with, had six folks, our bill was in the $110 price range. It was the worst $110 I've ever spent. A much better choice would of been any fast food place (Burger King, Taco Bell, etc). Do yourself and everyone you know a favor by not eating here.

  • Kim M.

My Husband and I went in for lunch and sat at the bar. The bartender on duty seemed to be aggravated that we sat down. No greeting at all except a head nod to see what we were going to order. I asked for a mimosa and he rudely said, "What's that?" We were starving but only going to have an appetizer to tide us over since he was so unfriendly until he never came back to check and see if he could get us anything until our beers had been empty and our credit card was being tapped to get attention. Really insulting!!

Good: free wifi. Bad: mostly frozen food poorly assembled for ridiculous prices.

Way over priced, and just mediocre food. It's the only Mexican place I know of that doesn't serve complimentary chips and salsa. We have 2 small children that were hungry from a grand time at the aquarium and this was close. It had no line or wait time at 7:00pm. That should have been my clue to move on. Tourist Trap!!!

  • Shawn S.

One of the worst dining experiences ever. After ordering our non-complimentary chips and salsa we had to ask for a refill of the salsa - which the waiter Bryan was kind enough to spill on my back. After apparently not noticing what he had done I pointed it out to him - and received no apology. My wife and I both ordered the Charlie's Chimi. It was supposed to have chicken, carne asada, and chorizo. Mine didn't have any chorizo and the chicken and steak had no seasoning. Just horrible. Our friends ordered the crispy tacos. Instead of being a taco - it was a (tiny mini eggroll size) rolled tortilla stuffed with unseasoned ground chicken. They were so bad they couldn't eat them. So - with two disgusting chimi's and two terrible kids meals (my son ordered the chicken fingers - please don't make the same mistake (worse than what you get in the frozen food section of your supermarket)) our bill came to 82.21 without having any alcohol (because they added in 18% gratuity for the horrible service we received). They did take off 10% because we were locals. Thanks a lot. After spilling salsa on me I should have gotten a free something. As we were leaving, the waiter mentioned something about us coming back to which we replied - we won't be coming back. PS. Throughout our meal Bryan did not refill my water once. (or anyone else's drinks)

We were walking around Broadway at the Beach and could not walk any more so we just decided to eat here. We got a seat inside but the music was blasting very loud so we moved outside which was much better. Our waiter was very nice. The food is average. They allow smoking which I didn't like because people were smoking right next to us. I would not come here again.

Went to this restaurant w/ a large group for a business lunch. It took us 2 hours from beginning to end to get orders done and served. We called ahead so they would be prepped for us. They were not busy. Music was loud and yet, the mix of music being played was the best thing about the place (except for the terrible random live music being performed) The quality of food was the worst I've ever had. I ordered the Charlie's Taco's and the shells tasted stale and the meat old and tough. The tea was not fresh brewed so you can imagine how disgusting it was to have half sweet and half unsweet of the fake instant tea. We ordered chips salsa and queso and guacamole. It was the WORST salsa, queso and guac I have ever had. Yuck! The salad greens looked okay but all the meat looked old and was overcooked. The waiter told us that Mahi Mahi was fresh catch but they couldn't put that in the fish tacos, instead all they would use was the previously frozen stuff. This was not Mexican, it was a tourist trap restaurant. No one ate, we all went back to our business meeting and ordered pizza!

ZERO STARS!!!! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! I wish we had read reviews before we stopped in for a quick appetizer because we were starving. For starters there was no hostess to greet us and the ?manager? was waiting tables asking another sever to help us, who proceeded to walk away. The waitress never introduced herself just asked us what we wanted for drinks and walked away. We ordered the nachos which were GROSS. Cheap mozzarella cheese on top and retried beans on the bottom and the side of guacamole we ordered was like paste. The waitress looked surprised when she came back and we had barely touched the food. Absolutely THE worst place I've ever eaten and we only got an app!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Excellent service! Food was amazing and very close to authentic Mexican food. You can's blame the waiters for not speaking English, their English is just fine to serve tables. The owner was extremely warm and welcoming you truly can't ask for more.

We came in for a late dinner on a Friday night and were warmly welcomed by the host and a fun atmosphere. Our server was fun but not the most informative. The queso dip was good and I enjoyed my quesadilla. I tried my friend's cheese enchiladas and they did not taste very good. Our drinks were good and strong, however, when I ordered I wanted the smaller size and the bigger fishbowl size was brought out instead and I didn't end up finishing it. I guess I should of been more specific when I ordered but did not think my server would assume to bring out the bigger size without asking. Overall we enjoyed our time at Carlos N Charie's, we might be back when in the area.

We went to Carlos n Charlies for lunch while on vacation. The place looks like a disgrace. Signs on the wall actually warn you if the food and service. We thought it was just a novelty thing. Nope. Nothing looked that good so we just grabbed some apps to hold us over till dinner. The nachos came out on a huge plate that looked like it was used to make pizza. It was just salty chips, refried beans and some generic mozzarella cheese melted on top. The chicken i added was bland but what can you expect for only an extra dollar? . The chicken quesadilla was the worst thing we ever ate. We each took a bite and sent it back. Bland chicken, bland cheese, barely toasted/grilled tortilla. The guy at the fudge shop asked where we went. I said Carlos and Charlies. His reply was "to eat?" It sounds like this poor excuse for a food establishment is only good for cheap drinks on a Friday night. We will never go back. Oh, and having all cooks playing pool in the dining area just shows poor management and how little the owners/managers care.... Why would they then care about YOUR experience? The kid who waited on us was also the 'DJ' for the day. The music was ok at first until his 'shuffle' program starting playing heavy bass dance music that should only be on when they have a slew of drunk college kids in there at 10pm on a Friday night. I'd like to give it NEGATIVE stars. I'd like to go back to Myrtle Beach next time and it not even be there any longer. You've been warned.

We thought we'd try something other then margaritaville, where we go all the time at Broadway on the Beach. We won't be back here again. Too much cheese on the nachos and they were burnt. Overpriced for what you get. It's back to jimmy buffets next time.

What Mexican restaurant doesn't give you chips and salsa as SOON as you sit down??????????!?!? Are you kidding me? It took 10 min to get a drink and the bar didn't even have orange wedges to put in drinks!!!!!!!!!! Where am I????

Always fun. Guacamole needs some work, too smooth for my liking. Atmosphere is always fun and kids always enjoy.

Fish tacos were delicious! They charge $5 for chips and salsa. I live in Texas, we don't pay for chips and salsa. It is one of those "been there, done that, got the T-shirt to prove it" places. Don't feel the need to go back again.

If you enjoy eating sub-par Mexican food in a hot, very loud restaurant, this is the place for you! Restaurant is so loud, you cannot have a conversation with your table mates. Also, the food is barely edible. My mom's hamburger was clearly a frozen patty and was very well done. Only receiving two stars because the service was good.

Service was ok. Place was empty, Now I know why food was horrible! Wings had no sauce or flavor tacos were chewy and mediocre at best.

Food was mediocre. Prices were WAY too high. $6 for chip and salsa appetizer at a Mexican restaurant? Come on... Won't be returning here.

Bleck! We were looking forward to eating here, and we so disappointed. The food was awful. We had onion rings for an appetizer. They were greasy and about as good as Burger King (actually Burger King is better!) In addition we had burritos, tacos, a cheeseburger, and a kid's meal of pasta alfredo. None of us enjoyed the meals. Save your money! Go somewhere better. We went to Carolina Roadhouse the next day and it was way better and less expensive.

Clean, decent decor. Our server was friendly. Dishes were ample and well plated. Food was OK. I'd eat here again, though I wouldn't be excited about it.

I would give this place no stars if I could! We are in the area on vacation, as most people are in Myrtle Beach, I would assume. I ordered carry out, so I was alone at the bar waiting for a bit which allowed me to observe...I saw a woman bartender tell a couple next to me that it was her first day and she didn't know the menu, after she couldn't answer several of their questions. I am a waitress back home and no restaurant I have worked for would allow me on the floor with zero knowledge of the menu! There was another bartender on his MacBook on Facebook the only time he stepped away from that was to take a call on his cell phone. I don't eat meat so I ordered the burrito with veggies and guacamole (from the waitress that didn't know anything) and an order of chips and queso. I also ordered two diet cokes. She brought me the sodas with no lids and they were flat. The order came to the bar and I could see that she hadn't told the kitchen it was a to-go order, so I had to wait while they packed it up. My bill came to $43.41! I got in the car and back to out hotel (30min away) only to find no guacamole in the burrito but a single order of guacamole and chips and a MEAT TRIFECTA in my burrito! I have tried to call this location about 10 times and no one answers the phone, then an operator says that the mailbox isn't taking voicemails and try again later. I was so hungry and so dissatisfied. We are going to drive over there again before we leave because I want my money back!!!!! Oh and p.s. they put Parmesan cheese on their guacamole?

I had the overly salty, greasy, gross "charlies tacos". My wife ordered the chimichanga and it was nasty. The meat was chewy, the rice bland, and nothing tasted fresh. Stay away! Way better places to choose from in myrtle beach.

Only positive thing here is Brooks a very friendly & attentive bartender. The others are unfriendly to rude to very unattentive. A large bucket with "TIPS" was placed on the bar in front of my face several times. Rude! One bartender threw my change into the "TIPS" bucket without offering it back. Rude! One bartender sprays H2O from bar gun on patrons & surrounding people. Rude! Food is horrible & expensive. Late night guest are pretty shady characters to say the least. Did not feel safe at all.

Come for drinks. The food is average at best particularly considering the price. On a nice day best to get a table overlooking the small pond. Server was friendly.

Thank God I went in here with low expectations because at least they were met (and definitely NOT exceeded)! The only reason we went in here was because my husband was about to pass out from starving, sooo.... this place literally was the closest eating establishment to where we were standing at the time. When we walked in, some stupid song was blasting (chicken dance or some equally dumb song) and all the servers were dancing. Eventually someone came to seat us. We asked for a high top table at the bar. Had to switch seats due to water (I hope) dripping down on my head from the ceiling. The next table we sat at had a bus bin with dirty dishes behind it, but at this point, we just wanted to eat a snack and get out. Our server really was very nice and attentive, so no complaints there. We only ordered apps to tide my husband over til dinner. I have never seen such colorless chicken quesadillas in my life. They were all white- white tortilla, white cheese, white shredded chicken. Not a seasoning or herb to be found. Bland and not very appetizing. It came with a tiny plastic cup with about a tablespoon of salsa on the side. My husband also ordered the chicken wings which he said were just ok. It was happy hour so we got $3 margaritas. If there any tequila in these whatsoever, I sure couldn't taste it! I have been to Carlos' n Charlie's in Mexico and they are definitely party places with lots of drinking and craziness going on. The problem at this one is that they try too hard to come off as wild and crazy, but really, it's just lame. For instance, when we ordered ketchup, the waitress screams "ketchup!" and then all the other servers in the area scream "ketchup!" Here's an idea Carlos n Charlie's-- concentrate on making decent food instead of making lame attempts at being "zany" or whatever it is you are going for.

Stay away lol I should've checked the other reviews before I came here. Service was horrible we had to tell the waitress things several times and wait forever for our food, which was also horrible. Normally I dot care if they get an order wrong either because when they're busy they make mistakes but they were not even busy. STAY AWAY!!!!

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Ended up here because there was a three hour wait at Margaritaville - we should have waited! It was an insult to Mexico to call that stuff Mexican food. I can't think of a good thing to say - the place was a mess, the service was terrible, the mixed drinks were weak, the beer was warm but the capper was the "food" - avoid this place like the plague!

Good fish, chimichanga and chicken fingers for kids! Great cadillac Margarita which was fixed after they brought in the tropical margarita by mistake! Recommend everyone try it out once!

This place is terrible. Please do yourself a favor and don't go here. The music is so loud that there is no way to communicate with anyone in the place. The Mexican food is an absolute joke....Taco Bell is more Mexican than this place. The prices are outrageous too.

not a big fan. We went here to get some mexican food and have a good time. Had no problem with the decor and atmosphere, but the staff was mediocre, the food is way over priced and the presentation and taste of the food was not acceptable. My wife ordered tacos and 3 little tortillas with a few chunks of chicken came out...no cheese, no lettuce, no nothing! wtf. We asked and they brought stuff out. I ordered a burrito. It was ok, but nothing too great. I didn't eat the rice and beans, nor the sauce all over the plate. The burrito was really just a pile of cheese fried in a tortilla, not very tasty. For those prices I could eat at Rosa Mexicano in Miami or New York and enjoy the food and atmosphere much better.

This place is deceiving because it looks like it will have good food. The environment is loud and obnoxious for dinner. They try to be fun but they try too hard when pulling you up to dance with them while you are eating. Their food is straight off the C grade food service distributors catalog (poor quality and low cost). Then they make it worse by charging $14 for a terrible mcdonalds quality burger. The tacos were the same story and also the same price. The chicken nachos had boiled chicken, nacho cheese(fake stuff) and Refried bean paste .... Not good at all. They know their food sucks but they don't count on repeat business due to all the tourists. The other resturaunts had a 2-3hr wait and for good reason apparently. This place had no wait and we should have known better!!!! We are now drinking at wet willies and they have an $8 hand pattied USDA burger that is awesome (says the waitress) DO not go to carlos-n-charlies

It's hard to imagine that I would ever say this, because I always think that there must be something worse out there, but by far, this is the WORST place I have ever eaten in my life. I should have know it was bad when after most restaurants at Broadway at the Beach had 1 to 2 hour waits, I walked into Carlos'N Charlie's and there were 5 tables filled. Literally, only 5 tables at 5pm during peak summer season. Um, yeah, I should have known. We used the coupon for the "free house appetizer" It was tostito chips and this nasty cheese whiz melted stuff that they told us was, and I quote "something like cheddar' It was almost laughable. I ordered the chicken sandwich - I mean, how could you screw up a grilled chicken sandwich? Well by making the chicken as flat as a pancake! Not kidding! It was literally as flat as a pancake. My husband ordered the nachos, mostly because we were there and was definitely not ordering the $14.00 hamburger. It was the only other cheapest thing on the menu... Seriously, Margaritaville - home of the Cheeseburger in Paradise (one of the best cheeseburgers around) was only $10.75 for a burger, and they want to charge $14.00 for a BURGER??? No thanks... so back to the nachos. It came with cheese and refried beans. That's it. Nothing else. They did give him a tiny cup of pico di gallo which was nothing more than tomatoes, so he had to ask for salsa (she gave him sour cream), he asked for jalopenos as well as some more tomatoes. The only person who liked their meal was my son who ordered the corn dog... and they gave him 2, lol. He was thrilled as that is a special treat that he is even allowed to order them, and the fact that they gave him 2 was the best part of the day for him. I, as a mom, was none too thrilled. I think 1 corndog is plenty for any kid :) I won't even get to the server - she actually brought a hand puppet book over to the table (my son is 10) and showed me how the puppet moved when she put her finger in it. I wish I were kidding. The bill with what little tip we left was almost $50. Absolutely ridiculous for dried out chicken flat as a pancake and chips and cheese essentially. NEVER NEVER NEVER again. I'll wait for the better restaurants and pay less.

Don't waste your money or time. I wish I had read reviews before convincing my friends to try this place. The food was okay. The service was AWFUL!! The place was not busy, yet it still took us forever to get our food. Our waitress was not friendly and chewed gum the entire time. Would NOT recommend this place to anyone.

This restaurant is without a doubt the worst in Broadway at the beach and maybe all of Myrtle Beach. I went here with my family because we like to try new places. The food was awful. We thought we were going into a mexican restaurant but the menu was all over the board and nothing that we had was good. They atmosphere is supposed to be light and fun. They have fart machines and that kind of stuff. It was really just awkward because the place was so dead and they were trying to force the few patrons that were there to do shots and stuff. Almost as bad as the food was the prices. It cost my daughter, my wife and I $75 before tip. We had two adult meals, a kids meal, one app, and a one alcoholic bevg. I have never left a restaurant feeling so ripped off. I walk by the restaurant every now and then waiting for the Closed for Business sign to be up, but I guess they prey on tourist who don't know any better.

This place, by far, is the worst restaurant/cafe I have ever been to in my life. The place is beamingly loud, dirty, with sweaty overworked high school age waiters running around. Our entire order was late, poorly prepared, tasted terrible, with parts being delivered completely different from what was ordered. The chicket fajita was stale, mean was rubbery and wit an odd taste, and the sides (tomatoes, sour cream) were miserably small - enough only for two fajitas. Coffee was so diluted, I could not taste anything other than water in it. Guacamole, listed on menu as "prepared at your table", came to our table ore-made, stale, and so spicy we had to send it away. It took 30 minutes to get the order in, another 30 min to get all of that to our table, then another 30 min to get someone to bring us the check and take the money. Not a shadow of remorse over disastrous food, no offer to bring something else, etc. No concern whatsoever. Absolute dumpster of offs service industry.

Went here for dinner and loved it! Going in with realistic expectations, the food was fine, and a great time was had by everyone in our party of 11. Balloon hats twisted for everyone personally, dancing, and where else can you sing at the top of your lungs during dinner?? As my 8 year old put it, " this is my new favorite restaurant, not so much for the food, but the fun". Well put.

The atmosphere was loud with music, but not over the top. I believe it is part of the Senior Frog chain but less party-ish. There was a lot of food and it was decent. The drinks were weak. 2 drinks, an app, 2 entrees, plus tip and we were out $100. All of the other restaurants had 2+ hour waits so we wandered in on a whim. It was a decent choice, I wish it was less pricey.

This place was horrible. My friend and I split the nachos and veggie burrito. The nachos were a pile of chips with cheese whiz and refried bean product, thats it. They came with 2 small plastic ramikins of sour cream and pico de gallo. It was not enough and the plastic togo cups were very tacky. The only veggie in the veggie burrito was corn. It was terrible. It looked like a 3 year old took a wrap filled it with string cheese and microwaved it. Awful. After we paid I realized that the waittress had overcharged us for the terrible burrito. The man helping us told us that since the check had already been closed he could not change the items and could not give me my money back! He offered nothing else to help us. Never going back here and would not recommend it to anyone.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
